Fall Home Improvement Checklist
Summer is just about over, although here in California, it may not exactly feel that way. Fall is just around the corner and it’s the perfect time to prepare your home for seasonal changes. By being proactive around your home throughout the year, you’ll end up saving A LOT in the long run and keep your home fairly maintenance-free for the rest of the year!Use this simple checklist to prepare your home for fall and the seasonal changes that may occur in the next few months. These simple tasks are valuable, simple and can be done in less than a day:
Clean The Gutters
One of the most important fall home projects you can do is to clean out the roof gutters. This minor task can prevent major problems later on. Cleaning your home’s gutters thoroughly every spring and fall will keep them working like they should. As leaves collect and build up in roof gutters, they can clog the downspouts, which can cause water damage to your roof and fascia (the board behind the gutter). If water pours over the gutters, it can end up next to your home’s foundation, in the basement or crawlspace.
Install a Floodlight
Make sure all your exterior floodlights are in proper working condition. As the days are getting shorter; it gets darker earlier and you and your guests will appreciate having lights working at nighttime to illuminate your home, yard, and walkways.
Upgrade Windows and Doors
Installing new double-paned windows can reduce your energy bill and keep your home warmer in the winter. You can also better insulate doors by installing weather stripping, another simple task that will save you money and energy.
Prep Your Patio or Deck
Summer weather and foot traffic will cause your deck to wear down. In order to prolong your decks' life and protect its appearance, you should seal your deck. Before applying a coat of sealant or stain, remember to prep the wood. Make sure to clear your patio furniture, sweep leaves and wash the deck thoroughly to remove any remaining dirt from the wood grain. Finally, check the weather forecast a full day before you apply the sealant or stain since you don’t want it to rain before it fully dries.Make sure to check the Imagineer Remodeling Blog for more helpful tips for your home.
